Digital X-rays for Children
Digital x-rays allow our team at Unicorn Dental Group to detect cavities while they’re still small, often making it possible to use less invasive treatment for your child.
Request an AppointmentIn some cases, if decay is caught early enough, simple improvements to your child’s home care routine may stop it from progressing entirely, avoiding the need for more involved treatment down the road.
What Digital X-rays Reveal
With digital imaging, our doctors can check for teeth that haven’t yet erupted, evaluate jaw and tooth development, and determine whether future orthodontic treatment may be needed. This gives us a much fuller picture of your child’s oral health than a visual exam alone.
Keeping Radiation Exposure Low
Today’s digital x-ray technology uses significantly lower radiation than traditional film methods. Combined with protective lead aprons and only taking x-rays when necessary, your child’s exposure is kept to a minimum while still giving our team the diagnostic information they need.
Digital x-rays work hand in hand with regular cleanings and exams to give your child the most complete preventive care possible. If you have questions about digital x-rays, contact us at (860) 635-3993.
Are digital x-rays safe for children?
Yes, digital x-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film x-rays and are only taken when necessary.
How often will my child need x-rays?
Frequency depends on your child’s age, cavity risk, and dental development, and is determined individually by the dentist.
What can digital x-rays detect that a visual exam can’t?
X-rays reveal teeth that haven’t erupted yet, developing decay between teeth, and jaw or bite development that isn’t visible during a visual exam.
Do digital x-rays help avoid more invasive treatment?
Yes, catching decay early through x-rays can sometimes mean simple home care changes are enough to stop it from progressing.
What precautions are taken during x-rays?
Protective lead aprons are used, and x-rays are only taken when clinically necessary to keep radiation exposure to a minimum.
